JASON Matthews’ lengthy search to land a striker appears to have come to an end as the player-manager revealed the signing of hot-shot Sam Jordan.
Jordan, who arrives at the Bob Lucas Stadium from Western League outfit Bradford Town, has been one of the most clinical marksmen at that level in recent times, with Matthews insisting he is “keen and hungry” to step up to the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.
The striker was hailed as the “Goal king of England” by the Wiltshire Times in November 2013 with 41 strikes to his name at that early point in Bradford Town’s 2013/14 campaign.
Speaking about Jordan, who netted 26 times in 32 games in league and cup for Town last term, Matthews told Echosport: “Sam has scored nearly 100 goals in the last two seasons and we are delighted to have him on board.
“He is strong and quick and that’s something I feel we have lacked and he is keen to make the step up. I feel he will do very well.
“He is a different type of player to what we have got.
“He scores goals, obviously he has to do it at a higher level, but he is really keen and hungry and is the right age.
“I think we have fought off around six clubs for his signature, two or three are at our level so it is quite a coup I think.
“The thought of playing in front of 500 or 600 every week was appealing to him, I know that.”
He added: “We have done a lot of research on him personally because of the vicinity he lives in. A lot of people spoke very highly of him and, actually meeting him, you could see he was keen and hungry.
“He can’t wait to get going and that’s the actual feel I have got with most of the lads.
“It’s important for us to hit the ground running and I am trying to get the best squad possible. That gives us around 14 players now, we are probably two away from what we want to start the season with.”
