CHRIS Shephard is hoping to be fit enough to make his eagerly-anticipated return from injury for the Terras on Saturday.
The former Exeter City youngster suffered a grade one hamstring tear during Weymouth’s FA Cup third qualifying round tie against Brimscombe & Thrupp earlier this month but is targeting a comeback when his side host Wantage Town in the FA Trophy this weekend.
While the Terras were left frustrated as their scheduled league clash was abandoned due to fog against Hayes & Yeading United last night, a positive came for Shephard as he joined in during the warm-up before kick-off.
Giving an update on his hamstring problem after the game was kyboshed by conditions, he told Echosport: “I am looking to train on Thursday and hopefully be involved on Saturday.
“If I get through training Thursday with no problems, then Saturday is the one.”
He added: “I just had a bit of rest for the first couple of weeks because we thought it was quite a bad tear.
“I went for a scan at Bournemouth and it came out as a grade one.
“I have just been building things up over the last couple of weeks. I had a good little run out and joined in with the warm-up (last night), everything felt good.
“You can’t think about the negatives when you are out, you have to keep thinking of the positives.
“I am feeling strong now and feeling hungry, so bring on Saturday.”
Despite last night’s game being called off early on, the Terras were still put through their paces and did some sprint work under the lights to keep themselves ticking over.
And Shephard, who sat out that exercise, did not envy his team-mates after the abandonment.
He added: “I did my bit, got showered and was nice and warm in my coat, I could watch them run!”
