CALVIN Brooks admitted he felt relieved to get one over on his brother, Marvin, as his Terras’ side beat Poole Town 2-0 in their FA Trophy third qualifying round replay.

Brooks captained the side on the night as well as playing at right-back for Weymouth and he couldn’t hide his excitement about beating the Dolphins.

Talking to Echosport, he said: “It was a bit of a relief to be honest. I remember walking into the changing rooms and screaming something, I can’t remember what it was.

“It’s not only beating him (Marvin) but over the last few seasons we usually come away with nothing, so I’m really happy with that.”

Asked if he and his brother exchanged any words, Brooks remarked: “At half-time he tried to get in my head a little bit. He said ‘he’ll (Luke Roberts) will get the better of you’ and I gave him a bit back. After the game he held his hand up and said we were the better side.”

The victory created a tie with Whitehawk – after they beat St Albans City in a replay – in the first round proper of the competition and the Terras’ defender feels the Terras can go there without any pressure.

He added: “It’s probably one of the worst draws we could have got. There’s no pressure on us and we will go there and see what we can make of it.”

Attentions turn back to the league this weekend with Weymouth travelling to Kings Langley and the captain feels the festive period will be huge for his team.

Brooks explained: “It’s crucial. We have to show that we can get results and show we can put a run together.”
