STUART Fleetwood spoke out about his footballing future, insisting “I’d like to stay” as part of the Terras’ set-up.
The experienced Bath City frontman’s loan spell, which has lasted three months with Weymouth, is set to come to an end after the Terras’ game at home against Cinderford Town on Saturday (3pm).
Weymouth player-manager Jason Matthews has already claimed he would like to keep Fleetwood on board and the striker is hoping the clubs can “get something sorted”.
Fleetwood told Echosport: “My last game of the loan spell is Saturday and we will see what we can sort after that.
“I have spoken to Jase about it and I’d like to stay until the end of the season. It’s games for me and I am really enjoying it with the team.
“They are a great bunch down here and I enjoy playing good football, which is what we try and do.
“Hopefully we can get something sorted with Bath. I see my chances being quite limited there if I go back.
“I don’t really want to go back and sit on the bench for three months, so hopefully we can come to some sort of agreement and see what we can do.”
On his spell at the club so far, he added: “I think it was a bit of a slow start by my own standards. I obviously hadn’t played a lot of games (this season) before I came here. I was finding my fitness and it took me a couple of games to get into it.
“I think then I have performed reasonably well.
“The goals hadn’t flowed as I would have liked before the start of this month, where I feel I have now really found my feet.”
Fleetwood was part of the Weymouth side that were left kicking their heels last night, after fog thwarted their home clash with Hayes & Yeading United for the second time this season.
“With last night’s game being off it’s a bit of a kick in the teeth, especially after such a great team performance on Saturday,” he added.
