TERRAS’ boss Jason Matthews admitted he questioned his side’s desire at half-time during their 2-2 draw with Hayes & Yeading United on Saturday.

The Weymouth manager, whose side trailed 1-0 at the break at the Bob Lucas Stadium, hit back from 2-0 down in the second period thanks to goals from Mark Cooper and Stuart Fleetwood.

Matthews told Echosport: “It was a poor performance in the first half and it’s for the second home game in a row.

“We showed good character to come back but we can’t keep starting games like that at home. It’s not good enough and really frustrating for me.

“A few of them need to look at their first-half performances and see if they actually want to play for Weymouth.”

Asked what was said at the break, Matthews replied: “I let a couple of people have it and said, if they wanted to play for Weymouth Football Club, they need to show more.

“I felt Mark Molesley came on and made a massive difference. Coppy (Jordan Copp) hasn’t been fit this week which is why he didn’t start. I felt he had a good impact.”

Another negative for the Terras did come in the encounter when youngster Tiago Sa was stretchered off in the second period with a knee problem, which is set to be assessed.

“I feel for Tiago, he got his chance and I don’t think he did too much wrong before he went off with a knee injury,” Matthews added.

“He was in on merit and that’s a good thing.”
