TERRAS’ chief Jason Matthews hinted that he could stick with playing a 3-5-2 formation in the coming weeks, if it suits the available personnel within his squad.
The Weymouth player-manager, who hinted at trying a range of systems throughout the latter stages of the campaign last week, saw his side deliver a 3-2 win over Kettering Town on Saturday after setting up with wing-backs either side of the three-man defence.
Asked whether the shape was something he would look at again, Matthews told Echosport: “Obviously, if you have the personnel to do it, and I feel that we have.
“I feel that Ash (Wells) slotted in at sweeper well and had a very good game, I thought he was unlucky not to be man of the match.”
He added: “I thought Tiago (Sa) came on and had a very good second half at wing-back and I felt the three at the back worked well.
“We want to play and we try to play good football at home. I tried to do a few different things to put a few of the wrongs right.
“Nobody can fault me for trying and anybody that knows me knows that I am Weymouth through and through and the last couple of months have been really tough, so it was nice to get a home win in a game with a good tempo.
“There was a little bit of enjoyment on Saturday, which has been a long time coming for myself and the fans as well.
“I felt the lads in the second half took the game to Kettering and really impressed.”
On the injury front, Chris Shephard is set to go in for a scan this week with Matthews admitting “it’s not looking great” for the playmaker.
The Weymouth boss added: “He (Shephard) has not made any improvement in three weeks out of football.”
Jake Wannell and Charlie Davis, who were both forced off on Saturday, are set to be assessed.
