WEYMOUTH boss Jason Matthews plans to discuss a permanent deal with Stuart Fleetwood in the coming weeks.
The forward has been in outstanding form recently since joining the club, and speaking after the side’s 2-0 win over Cambridge City, Matthews said he is keen to secure the striker’s long-term future.
He said: “He’s got 16 goals and that’s been vital in the latter part of the season. His ratio is better than one in two and that makes a massive difference.
“Over the next couple of weeks, I’ll have an idea of what my budget is at the football club and then I’ll be able to sit down with Fleets and discuss a deal.
“It’d be no secret that with the amount of goals he’s scored he’s going to be hot property because he’s found his form from a couple of seasons ago.
“We’ve given him a run and he’s done excellently. He does like it here so I think we’ll have a good chance of tying him down for next season.”
Fleetwood was outstanding in attack for the Terras, and Matthews also singled out goalscorer Aaron Rodriguez after his 30-yard strike.
He said: “On the whole it was a good day at the office and one where we could have got a couple more goals which is a bit frustrating, but we just lacked that final ball in the last 20 minutes, otherwise it could have been four or five.
“It was a great strike from Aaron. We keep on telling him to have the confidence to shoot and he’s pulled the trigger and you can see he has an excellent strike on him, putting it in the top corner, which was fantastic.
“I feel that lad’s got a lot of talent and if he believed in himself a bit more then we would struggle to keep hold of him.”
