Brandon fires but Yeovil hit back to beat Weymouth in opening friendly
A GOAL from striker Brandon Goodship against his previous employers got his Weymouth career off to a promising start, but he could not stop the Terras falling to a 2-1 friendly defeat against Yeovil at the Bob Lucas Stadium.
Having named a host of new faces and trialists in their squad for their opening pre-season fixture. New goalkeeper Mark Travers was the first to have an impact on proceedings for the Terras.
Travers was called into action for the first time on 10 minutes, diving to his right to palm away a low strike from Yeovil’s Otis Khan.
But it was on 23 minutes that two ex-Glovers to put the home side ahead. Calvin Brooks beat his man on the right hand side to tee up Goodship, who simply could not miss to open his account for Weymouth.
Just nine minutes later however, the scores were level in a moment keeper Travers will not want to remember. He looked to chip the ball out from inside the six-yard box, but could only find Khan, who made no mistake in drilling the ball into the far corner for 1-1.
As both sides made vast changes, Weymouth’s Toby Down was on hand to make a goal-line clearance to deny Rhys Browne and keep the scores level.
But just three minutes past the hour mark, the Glovers took a 2-1 lead through Bevis Mugabi, he powerfully headed into the roof of the net to seal the game after a devilish delivery to the back post.
