Ben Carter, of theterras.com, caught up with Terras’ midfielder Jake McCarthy to discuss his decision in joining the Terras and his ambitions for the season.

BC: Having had previous non-league experience at Maidstone how well does this prepare you for non-league football at the Terras?

JC: After playing a few games on loan at Maidstone and Dorchester and various other non-league loan moves I definitely feel those spells have prepared me for the Terras, both physically and mentally. I’m ready.

BC: Having worked with Terras boss, Mark Molesley, at AFC Bournemouth how much of an influence did he have in your decision to join Weymouth?

JC: Having Moles at Weymouth had a massive influence on me coming to the club , having played under him at Bournemouth for many years I know what his expectations and standards are and his personality and professionalism was a massive reason in me coming to Weymouth.

BC: After spending a short while with the current squad, what player are you most looking forward to playing alongside of?

JC: I know the majority of the team beforehand anyway as most of them have been at Bournemouth at some point, but from the lads I didn’t know coming into the club, I’m looking forward to playing with Aaron Rod and getting him a few goals and getting his confidence up, as he’s got potential to be a very good player.

BC: With our pre-season campaign in full swing, how excited are you to get the league campaign under way on August 12th?

JM: After having a great pre-season so far with all the training and all the games that we have played, it’s been perfect preparation with everyone getting the correct minutes and everyone getting what they need out of the games. Every member of the team is looking forward to the season starting and there is a real buzz around the club that we can do really well and push for promotion, which is the aim and a very achievable one.

BC: When you received an offer from WFC, was it an easy decision to accept the contract?

JC: Very easy decision to accept Weymouth with all the other Bournemouth lads already here and with Moles it was a no brainier, I couldn’t have asked for a better group of lads I’ve settled really easily.

BC: What were your main reasons behind putting pen to paper?

JC: Like I said previously, I knew a lot of the boys already so has been so easy and we all just can’t wait to get the season going!
