WEYMOUTH striker Matt Tubbs admitted he was pleased to get game time after he scored twice for the Terras against Wimborne Town on Tuesday.
Tubbs, 33, played the full 90 minutes for his new club, getting his month-long loan spell off to a superb start with a goal in each half against the Magpies.
Having picked up an injury in pre-season at parent club Havant & Waterlooville, Tubbs told Echosport the run out was “what my body needed”.
He said: “Regardless of the goals it was just about getting minutes under my belt. I got the 90 which is what my body needed.
“I started flagging towards the end but to get through the 90 injury-free I’m more than happy with that.”
Tubbs revealed his goals were “me in a nutshell” after twice pouncing on chances inside the box.
“The first one was a great cross in and I was in the right place at the right time to head it in. Then, again, Josh (Wakefield) slipped me in and I just slipped it past the keeper.
“That’s me in a nutshell, really. In the box is where I try and come alive and I score most of my goals in and around that area so if I keep getting in the right positions hopefully I’ll score,” he said.
Commenting on what was his first day at the club, Tubbs felt there are some “familiar faces” from his time at Bournemouth to help him settle in.
He said: “It was literally my first day. It’s not as if I’m going into the dressing room and I don’t know a lot of the lads. Most of them were young lads when I was at Bournemouth so there’s a lot of familiar faces.
“Obviously the gaffer as well, I’ve played with him, and the coaching staff I know them relatively well. It’s not as if I’m coming in and not knowing anyone. I’ve come in and everyone’s been really welcoming so far.”
And Tubbs believes the Terras’ philosophy creates chances and makes playing in the team a “dream”.
He said: “It’s good, a lot of them where brought up playing the Bournemouth way. I can see with (Mark) Molesley that’s what he’s bedded into the team.
“They pass and move, they create angles and they create chances, which is a dream for me really.”
