CALLUM Buckley feels Weymouth are more excited than nervous as they host Hitchin in their last game before the play-offs in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division tomorrow (3pm).
Weymouth now sit fifth in the table but results on the final day mean they could finish as high as second, should King’s Lynn Town lose and Weymouth overturn a goal difference of six.
Buckley said: “Everyone knows that the play-offs are just around the corner and I feel the team are more excited than nervous.
“We still have a game to play and that is all that the lads are focused on right now.”
The final day will decide whether Weymouth play at home for their play-off semi-final on Wednesday, with the teams finishing second and third securing a home tie.
It will also decide who they play with Slough Town, Kettering Town and King’s Lynn their potential opponents.
In Weymouth’s way will be a Canaries side that they lost 3-1 to back in November, with Charlie Davis getting the goal for the Terras.
Buckley credited his teammates, saying: “The lads are really good, we have a great group and keep each other going whether that is on or off the pitch.
“There is a really positive atmosphere at the moment.”
The home match will be the first since a 1-1 draw with Banbury United on Saturday, April 14 and follows two away trips to Kettering Town and Kings Langley, where Weymouth lost 2-0 and won 3-2 respectively.
Buckley admits it will be nice to be home but says there cannot be any excuses: “The long trips are something we have to go through, every other side has had similar journeys so we cannot have any excuses, but saying that it will be nice to be back at home this weekend.”
Ashley Wells will face a late assessment after a swollen foot kept him out of the 3-2 win away against Kings Langley.
Aside from that Weymouth have a clean bill of health ahead of what is potentially their final home game of the season.
