WEYMOUTH assistant-manager Tom Prodomo insists the Terras are aiming to take “small steps” at this juncture of pre-season ahead of their meeting with Kingstonian at the Bob Lucas Stadium tomorrow (3pm).

Mark Molesley’s men lost 6-0 to Bournemouth Under-23s in their opening pre-season gambit, but Prodomo is undeterred and admitted such a tough match so early was planned.

He told Echosport: “It’s early in pre-season and it was good quality opposition technically, tactically and physically.

“In terms of focusing on us it serves a good purpose – it was a game we designed to have early on.

“We’ve had another couple of training sessions since then. Really we’d just like to see a development of the core elements of our game and see a bit more physically.

“It’s just small steps at this stage and making sure they work hard all the time to get a bit more information back.”

Earlier this week, Brandon Goodship and Jake McCarthy said they were eager to win every game, and Prodomo believes Weymouth would never discourage that mindset.

He said: “All the boys have that mentality, whether it’s training, a friendly game or a league or cup game.

“It’s good that the boys have arrived back with more hunger than they had before – that’s something we’d never look to take away from them.

“Our job as coaches is to make sure they’ve got the tools to work with in pre-season.”

Injury-free Weymouth are again set to manage the players’ minutes with this game plus an encounter with Exeter City on Thursday.

Prodomo said: “We’ve got a group of players that is really capable of representing the football club well.

“It’s a fortunate position to be in and it’s been emphasised by the fact that we only had a year to work with them. I’m sure it will bear fruits across the season.

“Everyone is available so we’ll look forward to managing that this week.

“Obviously we’ve got another game on Thursday so we’ll make sure all the lads are matching up in terms of their contribution on the pitch.”
