WEYMOUTH LEGENDS 2

Phillips 11, Bound 40

BOURNEMOUTH LEGENDS 2

McQuoid 8, Hayter 62

WEYMOUTH and Bournemouth Legends fought to an entertaining 2-2 draw in aid of the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

Fans were treated to a pleasant surprise as the recently departed Calvin Brooks started for the Terras’ Legends, while current Weymouth boss Mark Molesley began for Bournemouth among a whole host of fan favourites.

Matt Bound captained the home side while the Terras’ Conference South-winning manager Garry Hill returned to manage Weymouth.

The match saw the substitutions relaxed to allow players to come off and on as the match went on, ensuring fans at the Bob Lucas Stadium saw a huge amount of their past heroes on the pitch.

Starting off at a great pace, the match saw Mark Ford’s early strike from distance drift wide with Bournemouth goalkeeper Gareth Stewart scrambling.

But Josh McQuoid opened the scoring for Bournemouth after eight minutes, lifting a lovely shot over the on-rushing Jason Matthews.

The Terras soon found themselves level in light-hearted fashion when a ball forward enticed Stewart to come way off his line but Lee Phillips beat him to it, before dribbling to the goal-line, stopping the ball and kneeling down to head the ball into the net after 11 minutes.

The game understandably slowed in pace before Alan Connell forced Matthews into a good stop after 25 minutes.

Bournemouth were on top at this stage but struggled to find a meaningful way into the Weymouth box.

Weymouth took the lead late on in the half when Ford was brought down inside the box by Stewart.

Terras’ captain Bound duly stepped up and fired into the top left-hand corner to cement a first-half turnaround on 40 minutes.

The second half began with Bournemouth very much on the offensive, with Matthews having to be alert to push round a shot from distance off the boot of his Weymouth managerial successor Molesley.

Bournemouth got their deserved equaliser when James Hayter rounded Matthews and side-footed into the empty net with 62 minutes on the clock.

The two sides could not find a way past each other as the score remained deadlocked until full-time.
