WEYMOUTH boss Mark Molesley believes the Terras have the “tools” to cope with being table-toppers ahead of their trip to Swindon Supermarine in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier South tomorrow (3pm).
Molesley’s men travel to Webbswood Stadium sitting at the league’s summit but have company from Taunton and Tiverton – the latter three points behind with a game in hand.
While Molesley conceded the Terras have established a “good position” early on, he warned of the “challenges” Weymouth will face by virtue of being the league’s pacesetters.
He told Echosport: “We just have to get on with whatever it shakes up. It’s tight up there, and it was last year – it’s still early on.
“We find ourselves in a pretty good position at the moment. It’s up to us to deal with the challenges it brings to try and stay up there.”
Away from home, Weymouth have been in rampant goalscoring form. The Terras have found the back of the net 15 times in four league games, taking three wins and suffering one loss.
Molesley said: “I think probably away from home the pressure is on the team at home. The teams that visit us are defending – at home they’ve got to try and attack us.
“Maybe that leaves a bit more space. I don’t see too much difference in the way we approach the game. Every game is difficult but we’ve got the tools to deal with whatever comes our way.”
Having overcome promoted side Wimborne Town 1-0 on their last outing, Supermarine are the second such team to tackle the Terras in the space of a week.
Molesley admitted the Wiltshire outfit is unfamiliar but insisted they should be respected due to a “false” league placing of 20th and good summer business, including the capture of ex-Terra Stuart Fleetwood.
“We probably haven’t got as much intel on them but we treat every game with the respect it deserves.
“Swindon have done well to get out of the league (below), it’s hard going. They’re obviously a good side and in a bit of a false position.
“They’ve recruited very well and are trying to make a statement. I wouldn’t like to read too much into their position, they’ve got a good squad.
“We’ve got our work cut out and we have to prepare for the game with the same attitude that we usually do,” he said.
Molesley has also been impressed with Weymouth’s response to losses against Farnborough and Banbury United.
He said: “To be fair, the boys have trained hard after the Farnborough and Banbury (defeats). We had a couple of bad results that didn’t go our way.
“We had some bruised egos and all we could ask for was a reaction – we’ve followed up with a couple of good results and in training I’ve been impressed with the boys’ attitude and hard work.”
Weymouth have no fresh injury concerns as left-back Callum Buckley edges closer to a return, although Josh McQuoid remains out.
