TOM McHale says a loss ‘was always going to happen at some point’ as Weymouth fell to a 1-0 defeat at Beaconsfield Town on Saturday.
Charlie Losasso’s 69th minute free-kick was the difference between the two sides, although Weymouth missed one penalty and should have had another.
McHale said: “Obviously it was not what we anticipated, what we wanted, but it is always going to happen at some point.
“I think with the games we have got left this was always going to be one of the tougher ones but obviously it is going to be another tough three games for us coming up now.
“Maybe you could say an individual error let us down on Saturday but it just did not go our way on Saturday.
“Obviously I know mistakes were made but it happens, you cannot be perfect 100 per cent of the time so I am just raring to go on Saturday.
“We are going to work hard in training this week, put right our wrongs and hopefully get the three points that we need now to push us towards the title.”
The game represented the Terras’ first fixture in which it was possible for them to be crowned champions, had results gone their way and they claimed a victory.
In the end, the Terras lost and Taunton Town won, denying them the chance to win the league even with a win.
McHale misread the free-kick from Losasso, which went in as a result, and he admits that he was caught in two minds about how to deal with the ball.
Reflecting on their goal, McHale said: “The guy who took the free-kick has got a great set piece on him, the boys did mention that before the game.
“But I just did not anticipate the strike well enough, I think I was caught in two minds as to whether to parry it or catch it and it has jumped up at the last second, I have misread it and it has gone in so we are all human.
“It does not faze me now as much as it did when I was younger, because I know now that I can learn from it.”
Weymouth’s situation at the top is now simplified however, with Saturday requiring a victory at home to Chesham United, combined with a draw or defeat for Taunton at Hendon, for them to be crowned champions at the Bob Lucas Stadium.
Should Weymouth and Taunton win, then the Terras can be crowned champions irrespective of results at Poole on Monday.
At the same time the battle at the bottom of the table is reaching a crescendo, with seven clubs still fighting to avoid the final relegation spot.
McHale added: “I am raring to go on Saturday, and it is going to be an exciting few weeks with how close it is, and the fact we are all on the same amount of games.
“It is going to be an exciting few weeks it really is.
“Obviously we are aware of other teams, it is not like we go into and come out of every game looking at results, it is not what we have done all season.
“We just know that now every game for every team is a cup final, especially in the top five or top six and for those fighting to stay in the league.
“There are so many big games going on.”
