WEYMOUTH manager Mark Molesley admitted pre-season has been “good fun” as the Terras prepare to visit Wimborne Town at Cuthbury tonight (7.45pm).
Molesley has overseen two comfortable victories – respective 3-1 and 4-0 wins over Hamworthy United and Portland United – in Weymouth’s opening friendlies.
More importantly, Weymouth’s new players are gelling with their retained squad and the Terras have also taken a look at several promising triallists – a theme Molesley expects to continue against the Magpies.
He told Echosport: “We’ll follow suit, at Hamworthy we had two forty-fives and a sixty-thirty (against Portland) so we’ll spin it round.
“We’ve had a good look at some triallists and we want to have a look at them against good opposition.
“Wimborne will be a good test for us and for some of the more established players to build on their fitness.
“That’s what pre-season’s about. It’s not quite about results at the moment, it’s more about the bigger picture, the fitness, how we’re playing and getting a look at some players as well.
“It’s a big week ahead but it’s been really good fun. It’s been hard work but enjoyable being around the group.”
Weymouth have signed Brett Williams, Adeoye Olumuyiwa, Ollie Harfield and Andy Robinson as new additions so far and Molesley expressed his satisfaction with their start to life as Terras players.
“I’m really pleased with the signings,” he said. “They’ve shown up really well and embedding into the group really quickly, which I knew they would because the big thing is not only the talent of the player but the character and the attitude.
“I think we’ve certainly got a good group of lads who are going to drive each other on.”
Elaborating on Weymouth’s pre-season preparations, the former Bournemouth midfielder added: “So far, so good. We’ve had some good sessions.
“The boys look fit, hungry and (against Portland) you started to see some of the way we play come out.
“We’re bedding in new players, we’re looking at some triallists and at the moment it’s trying to get that balance right.
“Hopefully as pre-season progresses people get fitter, sharper and we start to embed some of our philosophy a little bit deeper.”
