WEYMOUTH boss Mark Molesley has signed a new contract to remain at the Bob Lucas Stadium until the end of the 2020/2021 season.
Molesley, who will continue to combine his Terras duties with his work as assistant to Shaun Cooper at Bournemouth Under-21s, is now contracted for a further 18 months.
The deal was penned prior to the Terras’ 2-1 Vanarama National League South victory over Hungerford Town today.
Speaking to Echosport, Molesley, who has been in charge since 2017, admitted Weymouth had become his “baby”.
He said: “I’m obviously delighted. I’ve been very happy here since day one.
“It’s been hard work but I’m so fortunate I’ve been supported by my wonderful staff. Without them, we wouldn’t be where we are today.
“I’m totally indebted to the people around me. This feels like our baby, our team.
“We want to continue to try and improve this football team and improve this club.
“I feel we’re making great strides in the community, people around the club are working hard and starting to believe in the football club.
“People are starting to come back and see the hard work and, most importantly, see the team.
“They can see that the players are working hard for that badge – they’re really rolling their sleeves up.”
Commenting on the deal, chairman Ian White described Molesley’s backroom staff as “the best” he has seen in his 23 years at the Terras.
He said: “It was a no-brainer, just a case of getting the Ts crossed and the Is dotted.
“It’s a huge bonus for the club and hopefully he can continue taking us much higher than we are at the moment.
“We’re over the moon, we couldn’t be more pleased.
“Really, it’s an 18-month contract and that’s what Mark wanted to commit to.
“The way things are going, who knows what we’ll be doing next year.
“We’re building something special here at the moment and we’re getting it right.
“Mark was signed before I was chairman. I’ve got to thank the guys back then who took the bold step.
“We know that Mark’s link to Bournemouth is one of the key reasons we’re doing so well.
“I’ve been at the club for 23 years, I’ve seen lots of things happen, but this without a shadow of a doubt is the best management team I’ve seen at this club, and that’s down to Mark.”
