CHESHAM UNITED 0
WEYMOUTH 6
ON THIS day in 2018, Weymouth romped to a 6-0 win at Chesham United.
For the third time in the 2017-18 Evo-Stik Southern Premier South season, the Terras had plundered six goals, on this occasion five different players netting.
Farnborough had already been on the receiving end of respective 6-2 and 6-0 home and away defeats.
Now, it was the Generals’ turn.
Mark Molesley’s men, who were unchanged from the line-up that began the previous week’s 2-0 win over Dunstable Town, were 2-0 up with 32 minutes played.
Chesham were architects of their own downfall for the first goal, gifting possession to forward Ben Thomson.
Weymouth’s number nine still had plenty to do, but his spectacular dipping finish from 35 yards beat keeper Hafed Al-Droubi to set the Terras on their way.
Thomson then turned provider for Abdulai Baggie, the winger controlling and curling home from 25 yards.
Weymouth keeper Will Dennis was alert to prevent former Terras’ striker Jefferson Louis from scoring as Chesham had to settle for a 2-0 deficit at the break.
After the interval, goal machine Brandon Goodship had two efforts denied by a battling Chesham defence.
However, the Generals would be breached for a third time in the 75th minute.
Goodship finally claimed his almost customary goal, rifling home from 18 yards, before his immediate substitution for Harry Baker.
Wasting little time in getting in on the action, Baker lashed past Al-Droubi from the edge of the box two minutes later.
There was still time for a late Calvin Brooks double as sub Josh Wakefield teed the right-back up with a stunning ball from which he slotted past Al-Droubi.
And Brooks notched his second and the Terras’ fourth in a devastating 11-minute second-half spell as the away side smashed a sixth.
Compounding Chesham’s woe was a late red card for David Hutton, who picked up a second booking to receive his marching orders.
Victory formed part of six consecutive wins in March into April.
Later in the season, Weymouth would go on to be defeated 3-0 at King’s Lynn in the play-offs.
