Play-off Update
Weymouth Football Club would like to provide an update regarding the forthcoming play-off’s and our associated fundraising activities.
The club has undertaken a great deal of work in the last few days that enables us to meet requirements of Government guidelines issued to us by the National League. This work is ongoing to enable the club to be fully ready to host a home semi-final on or about the weekend of the 25th/26th July.
Mark, his staff and the players have now had their first Covid Antigen test to enable them to return to training in the coming week under the strict conditions of the protocol laid out by the government for the return of Elite Athletes to Sport.
As you will no doubt be aware Weymouth Football Club are liable for all of the additional costs associated with Covid and no prospective income from a game or games played behind closed doors. The initial estimate for testing was based by the National League of testing 40 people twice a week for 5 weeks. Each test was quoted by their provider at £125 each. This information was therefore used as our initial estimate for our fund raising.
Other costs include the deep cleaning of the stadium after each use including training, provision of PPE, Sanitiser, alterations to the stadium to provide one-way systems and zoning certain areas of the stand and concourse.
The board has set up a sub-committee which over the past week has been able to reduce these costs down to £35,000 which is now our reduced target. This has been achieved by using a different testing strategy and the considerable mitigation work carried out by the team led by our Covid Officer Mark Golsby, the Safety team and our Stewards.
We have been incredibly overwhelmed by your generosity in supporting the Go Fund Me and Take Two plus a significant number of direct donations made to the club. Without this kind of support and the willingness of others to freely give their time we would not be the unique club we are and able to participate!
So far around £25,000 has been raised, which in a week is absolutely brilliant, but we must strive forward to raise the remainder. To this end the WFC Supporters Association will be launching a one off edition play off shirt that you can purchase plus other ideas will be released in the next few days so please keep an eye out.
Finally, from the bottom of our hearts thank you all so much for your support which has not only come from our fans but also members of the wider non-league community.
