Weymouth kept their survival hopes alive as they saw off Slough Town 2-0 in the final home game at the Bob Lucas Stadium this season on Saturday afternoon.
A free-kick combination between Tom Blair and Teddy Howe in the 11th minute sees Blair cross a ball from the byline to Tom Bearwish. Bearwish takes the shot on the half volley but the ball goes over the bar.
Slough were looking a threat in the early stages of the game and had carried out an onslaught on Gerard Benfield’s goal in the 18th minute. Johnny Goddard fizzed in a low shot towards the keepers post which needed to be pushed away by Benfield. The ball came back into the area towards the back post where Josh Jackman came with a volley across the face of goal. Smacking against the upright, the ball came back out to Matthew Lench who wasn’t afraid to take on the shot first time. Benfield was called into action again to palm the shot away.
The conditions at the Bob Lucas Stadium saw the wind playing a huge part in Slough’s next effort as Shane Bush’s 24th minute cross from the near side curled along the byline before ricocheting off the woodwork.
The visitors were turning up the heat, with the Terras inviting the pressure onto them in the 27th minute. Willson put his body on the line to block a shot from Johnny Goddard. The attacker drove his way into the area before attempting to poke the ball past Benfield before Willson blocked the shot. The ball came into the area again, this time from a cross, with George Alexander rising highest to loop a header over Benfield. Willson did well to react the fastest, heading the ball off the line before Hemmings cleared the danger.
The Terras were given a spot of luck in the 34th minute as Blair was scythed down by Joe Dandy in the area after taking the ball beyond the defender.
Bearwish stepped up, and netted the spot-kick past Will Dennis’ to the keepers top left.
Max Hemmings could have added to the Terras’ tally in the 54th minute as the midfielder fizzes one in from the edge of the area towards the bottom corner, which Dennis had to palm away!
Blair’s free kick was kept alive at the back post by Brendan Willson before Slade tried his luck in a busy area! The ball fell to Bearwish but Slough manage to block the shot and clear their lines.
The Terras were turning on the pressure in the 63rd minute. Blair whipped in a free kick to the back post which Dennis went to claim. The ball was beyond the keeper but kept alive by Willson, who headed the ball down for Slade to strike. The shot was blocked but fell to Bearwish who tried to net with a first time strike but the ball was cleared away.
Two minutes later, the Terras doubled their lead. Harvey Slade put in a low cross from the far side which was poked in by Bradley Ash, despite Dennis’ efforts to scoop the shot out!
Bearwish executed some wizardry skills on the near side to formulate a chance soon after. The Terras captain went past his opponents before taking on a low shot across the face of goal that deflected goal bound by Shane Bush. Dennis’ reacted well to get both hands on the ball.
