Fans’ return fails to lift Weymouth in heavy Halifax defeat
Fans returned to the stadium, however could not lift the Terras to a win, as they lost 5-1 to FC Halifax on Saturday evening,
Despite a strong start from the Terras, it was the visitors who took the lead in the tenth minute. Luke Summerfield’s misfired shot found its way to Danny Williams on the left side of the box. The winger netted on his second attempt, firing it into the roof of the net.
The Shaymen got their second goal in the 22nd minute. Captain Niall Maher nabbed the goal after the Terras failed to clear their lines from a conrer.
The fans spurred the Terras on in the second half, and pressure put on Halifax paid off as Josh McQuoid pulled a goal back to make it 2-1 in the 65th minute. A short corner was laid off to Sean Shields who whipped the ball into the former Northern Irish international who headed it in.
Gevaro Nepomuceno broke the Terras spirit when he scored a third for Halifax in the 72nd minute. The substitute was allowed time to shoot, and placed the ball in the bottom right of Bycroft’s goal.
Seven minutes later Weymouth were 4-1 down. Jeff King drilled the ball into a dangerous area, and defender Tom Bradbury was alert at the back post to score into an empty net.
The away side capped off the result with a fifth in the 82nd minute. Jake Hyde headed in a cross from Jack Senior.
