Match Preview: Bromley (A) – Tuesday 5th October – 19:45

By Ted Slocombe

Tuesday night football for The Terras this week as Bromley host Weymouth in the Vanarama National League at Hayes Lane.

THE TERRAS

It was defeat at the weekend for Weymouth against Stockport County. Sean Shields had put The Terras in the lead at the break, but The Hatters scored two second half goals to take the three points. Brian Stock will be looking for the players to rally around one another to boost confidence levels to try get back to winning ways against Bromley on Tuesday, in order to maintain momentum within the league. The gaffer mentioned once again post-match that the attitude and ability of the players as a collective is very strong, however they need to be sharp and be able to correct the mistakes from the weekend to be able to go into the game in good shape.

Weymouth currently sit 17th in the National League with eight points from nine games played.

Player To Watch: Sean Shields

A first goal of the season for Sean Shields at the weekend only rewards the effort and determination he has shown to create chances for the team. A dangerous player who, with now a goal to his tally, will be hungry for more and could be the man to help bring three points back to Dorset on Tuesday evening.

Following a week’s rest, Andy Woodman’s side will be looking to make it four wins in a row in the league against The Terras on Tuesday evening.

Player To Watch: Michael Cheek

Seven goals in seven games for Michael Cheek for Bromley. The main dangerman in attack and someone who The Terras defence will need to be wary of, as his prolific form in front of goal will be utilised as Bromley look to extend their impressive winning run in the league.

Last season’s fixtures saw Bromley defeat Weymouth at Hayes Lane 3-2 in October 2020. Josh Wakefield and Tom Whelan were on the scoresheet for the Terras that game. The reverse fixture in February 2021 saw Weymouth take revenge by winning 2-1 in a game in which Andy Dallas scored two and the referee showing three red cards!

Final word

Another test for The Terras on Tuesday evening against an in-form Bromley side whose eyes are fixed towards reaching near the summit of the league table. Brian Stock’s side will need to be cautious but confident in their approach in order to bring three much-needed points back to the south coast.
