Match Preview: Weymouth v Yeovil Town – Tuesday 19th October 2021 – 19:45

By Ted Slocombe

Tom Bearwish’s dramatic equaliser keeps Weymouth’s first round FA Cup hopes alive as Yeovil travel south to the Bob Lucas Stadium for the Fourth Round Qualifying replay this Tuesday evening.

THE TERRAS

It was a much improved and more positive performance compared to recent games for The Terras with plenty of chances being created and the defence held firm for much of the game. Brian Stock said post-match that he felt that a draw “was a fair result” given the nature of the performance of his team in the second half. Weymouth had to “ride the storm” following the early Yeovil goal and that “half time came at a good time for us to work on things” which allowed Brian Stock’s side to come out fighting strong in the second half. But it took a stoppage time goal from substitute Tom Bearwish to force a replay at the Bob Lucas, a match which is expected again to see a bumper crowd for another blockbuster clash between these two rivals.

Player To Watch: Josef Yarney

Announced an hour before kick off on Saturday alongside Martell Taylor-Crossdale, Josef Yarney had an impressive debut for the Terras playing the entire 90 minutes at centre back. His strong defensive performance was praised by manager Brian Stock who said “You’d probably think he’s been playing there for a few weeks” as he was very assured and confident amongst the back line. If he maintains his place in the team, Josef will be expected to replicate his display at Huish Park, with Yeovil likely to be coming out of the blocks in similar fashion to the first half on Saturday.

THE GLOVERS

Yeovil may have thought that they had done enough to break their spell of no wins in their previous five matches however they had to settle for a draw following Bearwish’s equaliser. Darren Sarll’s side created multiple chances to kill the game which will be their main frustration that they will take from Saturday’s game. However, Yeovil themselves also had to be wary of The Terras’ attack with goalkeeper Grant Smith being called into action on several occasions especially in the second half, and he will be expecting a similar test on Tuesday.

Player To Watch: Charlie Wakefield

Charlie Wakefield was the man to open the scoring against Weymouth on Saturday as he pounced on the defensive mistake and confidently slotted the ball into the bottom corner. His quick reactions and work on and off the ball may prove to be key for Yeovil as they will want to attack with confidence again on Tuesday evening to try and secure their place in Round 1.
