Match Preview: Boreham Wood v Weymouth – Saturday 22nd January 2022 – 15:00

Weymouth are back in National League action this weekend, in David Oldfield’s first match in charge of the Terras as they take on Boreham Wood at the LV Bet Stadium.

THE TERRAS

David Oldfield was unveiled as Weymouth’s new manager this week tasked with the short term goal of keeping Weymouth in the National League. The task this weekend doesn’t come much tougher against Luke Garrard’s side, with the players hoping to make a good first impression in front of their new boss.

The thoughts of David Oldfield ahead of the game:

“The players have trained well this week and we are looking forward to the big challenge against Boreham Wood. We know what a good side they are and we need to be as prepared as possible.”

THE WOOD

Luke Garrard’s Boreham Wood side have their eyes firmly on promotion from the National League currently sitting in fourth place, with three games in hand, picking up 12 wins in 20 games so far this season. Boreham Wood are also unbeaten at home in the league this season with 7 wins and 4 draws, which will add an extra challenge for David Oldfield’s Terras on Saturday afternoon. In fact Boreham Wood haven’t lost a game since 23rd October where they lost 2-1 to fellow promotion hopefuls Chesterfield. The Wood have also been successful in the FA Cup this season, booking their spot in the 4th Round with Championship high fliers Bournemouth their opponents following a 2-0 win over League 1 AFC Wimbledon. They are also in the fifth round of the FA Trophy following a penalty shootout win against Maidstone United, with Wrexham their next opponents.

Player To Watch: Scott Boden

Boden arrived from Chesterfield last summer and has scored 7 league goals plus 2 goals in the FA Cup. Alongside Tyrone Marsh, the pair have been a strong source of goals for Luke Garrard’s side, with the pair likely to cause problems in attack tomorrow afternoon to continue Boreham Wood’s unbeaten run in the league.

@TerraStatman’s Facts Of The Match

“Tomorrow we travel to Hertfordshire to face a tough Boreham Wood outfit as historical results have shown, with Jake McCarthy scoring our only goal in the 3 games we have played against them to date.

Brad Ash, Ollie Harfield & Sean Shields have all played for Boreham Wood.

The players to watch for The Wood are Kane Smith & Tyrone Marsh who have both scored twice against us over the trio of fixtures.

David Oldfield will be hoping for a “new manager bounce” in this first five games but history shows that of the last 10 permanent managers to start at the club part way through a season, 4 gained more points in their first five games, 4 secured fewer, with 2 matching the tally of the previous manager’s last 5 games.

However of the last five permanent managers to start at any time, only 1 lost their debut game with 2 wins and 2 draws.

Our last win v a Hertfordshire side was against Hemel Hempstead in Jan 2020, an own goal with a Wakefield assist.”
