Ahead of tomorrow’s crucial clash away to St Albans City, we sat down with Warren Feeney, who spoke to us about our recent surge in goals, our attitude to setbacks and more…
On our unbeaten run:
I said we need to be competitive and we are. We could have perhaps earned ourselves even more points during this time, although we were on the receiving end of a penalty decision at Truro and we conceded goals at the wrong time last weekend. But, I have to admire the character we showed to come back from behind, twice.
On the right attitude in games:
I want the boys to enjoy their football, both in training and in matches. I wish I’d worked with them all season – maybe we wouldn’t be in this position – but we are where we are and we have to accept that. I want them to be competitive and take the recent spirit they’ve shown into tomorrow.
On our recent surge in goals:
We’ve been creating lots of chances. Sometimes we miss them, and sometimes we score, but that’s how it should be in football. Fans pay a lot of money to watch us and they deserve to be entertained.
Obviously from a manager’s point of view I would like to concede less, but we’re scoring more goals and that alone will give us a chance
On our attitude to setbacks:
As I said to the players after Saturday, we would have lost that match a month or two ago, but now we’re always thinking about how we can affect the game and score even more. I actually thought we started the second half very well – I feel if we had managed to score with one of our earlier chances we would have won. But, the boys have character and they’re fighting, which is all I can ask for.
On Malachi Linton:
When you have a striker like him you always have a chance to get a positive result. I’ve been there as a striker where you’re trying almost too hard to score – sometimes you just need that one chance to go in and it all falls into place.
What’s also been impressing me is his all-round game. He makes life very hard for defenders. Long may his good form continue.
On Leo Hamblin’s versatility:
He’s probably played more minutes than anyone else since I’ve come in. Football is a squad game and you need people like him that can come in when ready and do a job all over the pitch. He’s a really important player for us.
On tomorrow’s match:
We’re going into a massive game. St Albans are down where we are, led by an experienced Ian Culverhouse, but we know what we need to do. We’ll likely be missing a few with injuries, but we will give everything we’ve got.
On facing other relegation-threatened teams:
We will be prepared. We can’t let emotions get the better of us – we just need to go out with the same attitude we have towards every game. There’s a game plan that we’ve set out do and hopefully we’ll execute it.
