This weekend the Terras will be looking to give the Tigers a mauling and restore parity to our head-to-head record which currently stands at 16 wins to Gloucester and 15 to Weymouth.
Yes Jamie Wells’ charges will be looking to earn their stripes in this first trip to the county town since 2003! We have played them more recently at home though – a 2014 pre-season friendly and of course our first league encounter this season when the cathedral city outfit returned home with all three points having scored the same number of goals, one of which from former Terra Ben Morgan.
That last trip to the riparian stadium back in 2003 was a pre-season friendly, a Lee Phillips brace securing a 2-1 victory.
We have to go back quarter of a century though to find our last competitive games before this campaign when we met four times in the 1999/2000 season. In the FA cup our visitors were victorious following a replay but the Terras gained revenge in the league with a 1-1 draw at the then Wessex stadium before a 4-1 win away.
Today will add another page to the 75-year history of this fixture, commencing with the first time we faced each other back in the southern league in 1950. In fact 35 of the 44 meetings to date have been in the southern league or its cup competition.
Many players have featured for both teams over the years but at least two in the current Tigers side will be familiar to Terras fans in the shape of their goalkeeper Jared Thompson who featured five times for Weymouth in 2023/24 and defender Ben Morgan who played 23 times from 2020 to 2022.
Can the Terras earn their stripes against the tigers with Jamie Wells continuing his g-g-g-g-great managerial start?
