JOSH McQuoid said it was ‘good to give the fans something special’ as he played a starring role in Weymouth’s 5-0 destruction of Dorchester in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier South.
The winger was later voted man of the match, during which he set up one goal and scored two goals in a fantastic performance.
He said: “We are obviously still going on that unbeaten run which is positive and obviously with the local derby it is nice to give the fans something special like that.”
Reflecting upon his own performance, he admitted it was his best game so far for the Terras, who he joined prior to the 2-2 draw at Winchester City in the final pre-season match, and his first-half goal was his first for Weymouth.
McQuoid said: “I think it is my best game so far. I am still getting up to match fitness and two games in three days is obviously tough but I think the lads obviously have done very well and it was obviously pleasing for myself to get off the mark with two goals.”
Four of Weymouth’s goals game in the first half with McQuoid scoring one of them, while Ben Thomson grabbed a brace and Brandon Goodship scored his eighth goal of the season.
McQuoid said: “We had a lot of joy from out wide, I think that has been from all of our games so far we have done well from the wide positions especially (Abdulai) Baggie’s side and then obviously coming over to my side and switching play. It has worked well for us and on Monday obviously it happened again.”
The derby was McQuoid’s first experience of the Ridgeway derby but he was glad to have played in one.
McQuoid said: “I had heard a few bits about it, obviously last year it was a bit of a tense affair so it was obviously good to play in one and I enjoyed it very much.
“The fans got right behind us and I am just glad we got the win and I am just glad we got the win and obviously we wrapped it up pretty much in the first half but we had to come out in the first half and be professional just to see the game out and we grabbed one more goal which was nice, for myself so yeah it was a good day at the office.”
The second half was a low key affair, as the two teams struggled to break each other down.
“They sat back a little bit and we just kept the ball so it was almost just time running down the clock. Obviously we wanted to get a few more goals but naturally I think with two games in three days fitness comes into it as well. But for myself to get a second goal was nice, should have had a third goal at the end but I blazed it over the stand.
He then joked: “So I think that’s a fine for me for blazing it over the stand!”
When asked how it has been settling into the squad McQuoid said: “I know a lot of the boys from the Bournemouth days and other places but it has been good. There is a obviously a lot of lads that can chip in with goals, especially Brandon obviously he got one today but the hat-tricks he has got have helped us out massively but overall on the team performance it has been a different class.”
