Ben Thomson returned to the first team in style with a match winning goal and a man of the match performance against Basingstoke Town last weekend.
Thomson scored in the second-half to make sure Weymouth came away from the Camrose with a 2-1 victory and all three points.
A late withdrawal from Callum Buckley meant that Thomson was drafted into the first team, having originally been lined up to start from the bench.
Speaking to theterras.com after the match Thomson said that Basingstoke didn’t make it easy for the Terras, ” It was a tough game, obviously it was my first game back and I wasn’t expecting to start.
“But Buckers pulled a sickie and I’ve had to step in. It was a tough game, they are a very good side going forward, but it’s nice to have come away having nicked three points.”
When asked about his goal he said, “Goody actually passed it for once and I’ve slotted it in, it was a good feeling!”
The striker, who has now scored 5 times this season, took time to praise the travelling Weymouth support, “The fans were brilliant, they are always brilliant, especially away from home it makes such a difference, they’re like the twelfth man.”
Weymouth’s next match is at home to Street in the Buildbase FA Trophy on Saturday (3pm kick-off).
