JASON Matthews will manage his final game for the Terras in their Dorset Senior Cup final against Gillingham Town next Tuesday.
The Terras have also appointed a new chairman in director Steve Mills, who is set to replace Chris Pugsley in the role at the end of this month, after he resigned from the position on Monday.
Mills confirmed he contacted manager Matthews today to speak about his future and it was decided that Tuesday’s cup final against the Gills was to be the goalkeeper’s last in charge.
Revealing the news to Echosport, Matthews said: “Basically, we agreed by mutual consent that I go after Tuesday.
“It wasn’t an unexpected decision but I accept it from the board and wish them well for the future. Hopefully I can go out with a cup final win.”
Speaking to Echosport: Mills said: “It was after a poor season really.
“It just didn’t work Jason’s way. He has put a lot of work into the club over the time he has been there and he has been a loyal servant.
“I think everyone really wanted him to be a success because he is a wonderful guy and a fantastic human being. It’s just so sad that it didn’t work out for him.
“I spoke to him earlier on and it took me a long time to pluck up the courage to speak to him because I like the guy so much, but he took it with grace and dignity.”
Asked about stepping up to the role of chairman, Mills said: “I have got some big shoes to fill.
“It’s not something I was thinking of but with Chris stepping down and watching him work, if I can keep it going the same way I think we will be okay.
“The club needs to go in some direction and, if I can keep it going in the same direction that Chris has launched us, then I think we will be okay.”
Mills also confirmed that news on a caretaker manager will be made in due course.
