WEYMOUTH completed a treble swoop on transfer deadline day ahead of tomorrow’s’ tough Conference South trip to second-placed Cambridge City (3pm).
Manager Garry Hill signed Grays Athletic striker Vill Powell on loan, Dagenham and Redbridge winger Steve Clark and former Welling keeper Glen Knight.
The trio move to the Wessex Stadium on short-term deals a day after Crawley Town striker Charlie MacDonald.
The quartet are all in Hill’s squad for tomorrow’s clash at Milton Road, with the manager delighted with his acquisitions.
He said: “I’m pleased with the signings over the last couple of days, who are all experienced at our level, and their arrivals have given our squad a big boost for the remaining six games.
“We’ve now got some extra attacking options available to us, with Vill Powell, Steve Clark and Charlie MacDonald providing added pace and strength.
Vill, who is Grays second highest scorer this season, joins us on loan until the end of the season and I’m really pleased to get him.
“He has played a big part in helping Grays win the league title and we managed to beat off interest from Thurrock and Cambridge City.
“He’s a strong and mobile goalscorer who will complement our other strikers, Kirk Jackson, Charlie MacDonald and Chukki Eribenne, who is still a week away with his hamstring.”
Winger Clark, 23, rejoins Weymouth having played for them once under previous boss Steve Johnson at Bishop’s Stortford last December.
But Clark was released after one game with Johnson claiming the former Southend star had travelling problems commuting to Dorset
But Hill said: “I signed Steve when I was at Hornchurch, know what he’s all about and there won’t be any problems on the travel front”
East Thurrock United keeper Knight has been drafted in as cover for Francisco Ramos, while number one Jason Matthews sits out the final game of his three-match ban tomorrow.
Hill says he will not rush making decisions on the long-term futures of his four signings.
“All my signings will be available over the rest of the season at the very least and we’ll see how things go from there,” he said.
Hill is keeping his starting line-up close to his chest “The new lads give us extra options and it’s important each team we put out is suited to that particular game and I’ll be adopting a horses for course philosophy tomorrow,” he said.
“It’ll be tough at Cambridge but all the expectation will be on them because they are second.”
