Andy Dallas’ 4th minute goal was enough for Weymouth to snatch all three points in a tough game against Stockport County on Saturday afternoon.

The Terras won the reverse fixture in dramatic fashion, coming back from a goal down to win 2-1 in the 85th minute thanks to Tom Whelan.

Brian Stock named one change for this clash from last weeks 2-2 draw against Kings Lynn, with Josh McQuoid coming in for Ben Thomson.

Andy Dallas has been prolific for the Terras and it took just 4 minutes before the in-form striker scored in the game. Josh McQuoid carried the ball down the left. The Weymouth captain cut into the area, had his shot blocked but squeezed the ball through to Dallas. Weymouth’s number 18 had time to pick out his shot and fired it past Hinchliffe into the top left corner.

Stockport came close to finding an equaliser 6 minutes later. The Mancunian side were moving the ball around sharply when possession came to Tom Walker on the left. The midfielder looked up and crossed the ball in towards Sam Dalby. The strikers header looped over Ethan Ross and looked to go in had Dominic Revan not been there. The on loan Aston Villa defender headed the ball off of the line and away from danger.

Stockport were patient in building their attacks and came close again in the 16th minute. Walker again was involved as the midfielder unleashed a low cross from the left to Dalby. Dalby took the ball under control well and laid the ball off to Alex Reid to strike. The forward struck a curved shot first time, with Ross needing to palm the ball over his bar.

Stockport looked shaken defensively as Weymouth were pushing for a second goal, their next attempt in the 28th minute. Ollie Harfield’s set piece picked out Jacob Mensah in the box who came up for the free kick. The towering centre back could only direct the ball for a goal kick, his attempt inches wide of Hinchliffe’s right post.

The Terras were pressing the Stockport backline hard, with Calvin Brooks chasing down every ball with Dallas. James Jennings was not allowed the time to clear the ball and gave possession away to Jake McCarthy. The midfielder saw Hinchliffe away from his line and struck an attempt first time. The attempt was high and over the bar.

Stockport came close after the second half kicked off. Alex Reid played a ball through to Harry Cardwell. The ball played was too heavy for the substitute, leading him to collide with a rushing Ethan Ross. Cardwell was booked for colliding with the goalkeeper.

3 minutes later, in the 51st minute, Stockport had another attempt. Cardwell laid off Newby to strike the ball first time outside the area. The debutant directed a low shot which was stopped in its tracks by Mensah who attempted to clear the ball away, which invited more pressure onto the hosts.

The away side came out of the blocks the quickest and came close to finding an equaliser. The away side were relentlessly picking out balls and putting them into a dangerous area. James Jennings caught the ball at the back-post, turning to shoot. The left back was metres from goal. His shot was denied by the quick Ross. The goalkeeper turned the ball onto the inside of the right post. The ball came off Ross again before it was cleared away from danger.

Weymouth were close to doubling their lead in the 61st minute. Sean Shields had sprung into life and steamed into the Stockport area. The winger was not allowed to turn onto his right foot, instead unleashing an effort across the face of goal, matched and parried away by Hinchliffe.

Weymouth had to clear the ball off the line again in the 63rd minute. A clever move on the byline saw Reid square the ball across to his strike partner Cardwell. Cardwell flicked the ball past Ross with a back heel. The ball was trickling in before Harfield produced his own flick to deny an equaliser.

The game was end to end and two minutes later, the Terras were through again. Dallas turned playmaker this time and threaded McCarthy through. The midfielder struck the ball first time, with the deflected effort fizzing inches wide of Hinchliffe’s right post.

Stockport were denied again in the 70th minute. A succession of blocked shots gave Reid a chance to poke the ball in. The striker scuffed his effort yards from goal, allowing Ross to push the ball out for a corner.

The away side were looking hard for an equaliser. Newby struck from distance but Ross got down to his right side quickly to make a comfortable save.

Weymouth managed to find room on a counter attack. Keane was dispossessed by Shields and Dallas took the ball on. The striker pressed on from the right into the opposition area, with Shields accompanying him for support. Dallas went alone but his effort was over the cross bar.

Stockport were awarded a free kick in a dangerous position in the 87th minute. The effort could not beat the wall.

A frustrated Stockport could not find a winner in 3 minutes of added time. The Terras won 1-0 and claimed their first double this season.
