Swindon Supermarine vs Weymouth

Recap

Starting team for the Terras:

Benfield, Howe, Hamblin, Davies, Cheshire, Roberts, Bearwish, Wabo, O’Connell, Rollinson, Hemmings

The Terras began the match at a fast pace, with Teddy Howe getting stuck in early with a great recovery challenge to cut out what would have been a dangerous cross from the hosts.

Gerard Benfield’s distribution was superb all game. His first action coming as he released a monstrous throw towards Keelan O’Connell, Keelan did well to set up Joel Rollinson. However Joel’s saw his shot blocked.

Tom Bearwish has had a superb pre season so far, his hard work and grit in the midfield has been a thing to behold so far! On the ten minute mark Tom found himself the space to whip a dangerous ball across the face of goal. However his cross was put behind for a corner. The subsequent corner was connected with by Norman Wabo, however Wabo’s effort flew over the bar.

The best chance of the game so far came on the twelfth minute when Anthony Cheshire rose above everyone else in the box. However his header left a lot to be desired as he couldn’t quite get over the ball.

Cheshire’s chance was topped by Dan Robert’s effort. Leo Hamblin produced some more magic with his wand of a left foot. This time Leo floated a cross towards Roberts. Dan did well to connect, however his header was off target.

On the forty second minute Dan Roberts struck home following a Terras corner. Giving the Terras the advantage.

This advantage was short lived as the hosts went virtually straight from kick off and equalised with a superb looping finish over Gerard Benfield.

With the game square at half time Bobby’s team for the second half shaped up as follows:

Benfield, Howe, Rees, Rowan, M.Brooks, Iseguan, Harlain, Adjei-Hersey, Goodship, Stagg and Monk

Benfield was called into action early into the second half. His outstretched right boot being the only thing to deny the visitors from taking the lead.

On the fifty second minute though, it was Frankie Monk’s goal who restored the Terras advantage. Tom Stagg playing in Monk, his first touch was brilliant to find the space in behind the defensive line. But his second one was even better as he rolled the ball past the Supermarine ‘keeper with composure!

The Terras were forced into playing with ten men, despite this being Bobby’s plan all along. An injury to Nelson Iseguan meant the lads finished the last twenty five minutes or so with a numerical disadvantage.

The match began to slow down after that with neither side having many clear cut chances. However it was clear that the Terras were keen to extend their lead. A mentality that was praised by Bobby Wilkinson in his post match interview.

The game finished in a 2-1 victory for the Terras

Focus now shifts to out game against Southampton B on Tuesday night!
