After the best performance of their pre-season programme so far when they drew 2-2 against Southampton Reserves, Geoff Butler’s Weymouth side test their fitness against another squad of full-timers at the Wessex Stadium tonight, kick-off 7.45
Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has named an experienced side for the First Division club’s visit and Butler hopes his men can continue the good form they showed on Monday night.
“I recognise quite a lot of the Pompey names from the league games I watched last season when they were one of the teams I was scouting for Wolves,” he explained. “They will give us another hard game but if we play like we did on Monday I’ll be more than happy. For probably the first time we had the shape and look of the side I want. Lee Phillips and David Laws up front made all the difference and people who hadn’t really performed that well in pre-season up to then all had good games. We knew if we didn’t perform they would give us a right chasing and because of that our attitude was much better.”
Former Bristol Rovers youngsters Lance Spencer, who missed the Southampton game with a back injury, may be fit to return tonight in the only addition to the squad which faced Southampton.
Terras: Matthews, Kenway, S Browne, A Browne, Bradford, Rawlinson, Robinson, Hutchinson, Walker, Laws, Phillips, Bastafield, Sajic, Dean, Spencer.
