WEYMOUTH are ‘desperate’ to fulfil their desire to land promotion back to the National League South this season, according to Chris Pugsley.
The club director, whose current role as chairman is set to be decided this week, has made it perfectly clear in his intention to help manager Jason Matthews deliver success on the pitch this term.
The Terras have finished seventh in both of their first two full campaigns under Matthews since he took the job.
And this time around, Pugsley insists the club have the squad to land that all-important promotion.
“I think the upcoming season is looking extremely promising,” he told Echosport.
“It’s Jason’s third full year, so it’s now Jason’s team.
“The players are very committed to the club and each other, they are a very close band of guys.
“I think Mark Molesley has brought a whole new dimension to the coaching, he has moved us up a grade totally and he will move us further.”
On the side’s chances of going up, Pugsley added: “I think we are all desperate for it.
“I know Jason is desperate for it and he has brought in a really good team.
“He is going to be very disappointed if he doesn’t get in the top five, that’s for sure.
“There are some teams spending some money out there but I think we have the squad with the players to change games and we can mix it up.”
Asked to give a message to the fans ahead of the new campaign, player-manager Matthews added: “Just to keep going as they have done over the last few seasons.
“They have been outstanding for me and, hopefully, we can do this together.”
