RESERVES’ chief Bradley Asagba admitted “it’s brilliant” to see youngster Conor Jevon back involved with the club’s first team at present.
First-team boss Jason Matthews confirmed the striker is set to stay with the club following an approach from Dorchester Town and told Echosport Jevon has “got a big part to play” in the Terras’ main squad at present.
While Jevon’s inclusion takes away one of the reserve side’s top marksmen, Asagba is happy to see the youngster get further opportunities at the Bob Lucas Stadium.
He said: “I have been on record to say before that I think he is a Southern League footballer and, at this moment in time, he merits his inclusion with the first team.
“I think he is the torch bearer in terms of showing that, if you apply yourself, work hard enough and play well enough you get the opportunity.
“Young players, if they are good enough will get the opportunity. The only difference with Weymouth, to other clubs locally, is the standard to get into the first team is somewhat different.”
Asagba added: “He has done well and he is there on merit, he should be the incentive to the other players in my team to show that, if you work hard enough, there is a possibility. We are delighted with him.
“It’s a bit of a pain for us because he is out joint top goalscorer! But for him and the club it’s brilliant.”
