BOSS Jason Matthews confirmed to Echosport this evening that goalkeeper Dan Thomas has left the Terras by mutual consent.

The former AFC Bournemouth shot stopper was brought in during pre-season to provide competition for Matthews but has slipped out of the first team with Truro City loanee Tom McHale cementing himself as the club’s number one gloveman since his arrival.

“Dan Thomas has been released by mutual consent,” Matthews said.

“Obviously, from Dan’s point of view, it didn’t work out.”

He added: “I’d just like to thank Dan for his efforts. I just think that Tom McHale has come in on loan and had a very positive impact.

“I have been very impressed with his performances and I need to get results now, there is no two ways about it, and I feel young Tom has done very well.”

Thomas’ last appearance for the club came in a 1-1 draw at King’s Langley at the start of December, where he was sent off, leaving Weymouth without a recognised goalkeeper for the rest of the game.
