NEW Weymouth signing Callum Buckley admitted he has a real desire to feature in the Ridgeway derby next season, but is hoping it goes slightly better for him than his last effort.
The young defender, who has agreed a one-year contract with the club for next season, featured in the clash between the Terras and the Magpies in August 2014, when on loan at Dorchester Town from AFC Bournemouth.
Goals from Chris Shephard and Jamie Laird that day meant Weymouth were 2-0 victors and, having been on the losing side once, Buckley is eager to make sure it does not happen again.
Reflecting on his first matchday experience between the two sides, the defender told Echosport: “It wasn’t a great derby for me but when I played in it, it was brilliant.
“My memories of it are that we lost badly and Weymouth were so much better than us. It was one of the biggest games I have played in.”
He added: “I still remember it now because the fans were brilliant and they were on me because I was on the opposite side then.
“Hopefully they will be a bit nicer when I come back at the start of the season!
“It was such a good experience for me to play in a game like that at that age, it massively helped me.
“Hopefully I get to play in one this year because I loved it last time.”
