Weymouth Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Goalkeeper Ross Fitzsimons.

The 27-year-old shot-stopper joins the Terras following the expiry of his contract at National League side Stockport County.

Fitzsimons started his career with Crystal Palace before moving to Bolton Wanderers; he later had a spell as Notts County’s number one, where he made 59 appearances.

He started last season with National League North side Boston United, where he earned the National League North Player of the Month award for December 2020. Fitzsimons then earned a move to Stockport County in March 2021.

Brian Stock told uptheterras.co.uk, “When Ross was made available to us a couple of weeks back we acted upon it quite quickly.

“We asked a number of managers and players who he had crossed paths with and all we had back was positive feedback; whether that was a character reference or on his playing ability it didn’t make any difference because everything was positive.

“We are delighted to bring Ross to Weymouth Football Club. He brings experience at 27 years of age and he has also been at some big clubs over the past few years.

“Although he hasn’t held down a number one spot over the past couple of years he’s proven that he’s more than capable of playing at this level, if not higher.

“We’re really pleased to sign Ross and he’ll battle it out with Gerard Benfield for that number one spot.”

In the goalkeeping department, we can also confirm that Harrison Bruton will be remaining at the club for the 2021/22 season.
