Paul Maitland spoke to theterras.com ahead of Tuesday evening’s home game with Basingstoke Town.

Josh Barton: Basingstoke Town are the visitors tomorrow night. They have had a mixed start to the season. What are the thoughts ahead of this?

Paul Maitland: It is a game that we will be looking at to bounce back after Saturday. I think it’ll be a good game between two teams that try to play football the right way. They are similar to us in that they have a young side. It’s another tough one but we will be going all out for the three points.

JB: It’s obviously a busy week with the FA Cup game on Saturday but is it very much full focus on getting the points in the league?

PM: It’s always one game at a time. Chelmsford very much goes to the back of the mind until the end of tomorrow night. The full focus at this moment is and has to be the Basingstoke game.

JB: There seemed to be a mainly positive reaction despite the defeat on Saturday. Do you think the people are realising the good work the club is trying to do?

PM: I would like to think that the supporters can see that it’s not a lack of effort and that they go right until the end. It would have been very easy to lick our wounds and feel sorry for ourselves after going 2-0 down but to our credit we stayed at it and created enough chances to get something out of the game against a very good side. Our supporters are very knowledgeable and I think they know the game. Hereford, after watching back, will take a lot of beating this season and I fully expect them to be right up there. This game is a good opportunity to bounce back!

JB: Finally, for a bit of light-hearted stuff, a fan group did some drawings of you last week; how did you rate the efforts?

PM: I thought they were exceptional and I’d like to thank each and every one of them for the time and effort to draw me. I’m absolutely honoured that people have done this. I’d like to congratulate the winner Mr. Asman for his win, I know how he got his idea, from Kings Lynn away last season… I’m looking forward to seeing the drawings of Dave Tune this week. I’m also looking forward to the managers turn!
