WEYMOUTH boss Mark Molesley was proud of his players for winning in a “different way” after the Terras’ 3-1 win over King’s Lynn at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

A Brandon Goodship brace and a wonderful Charlie Davis volley handed Weymouth a victory that propelled them into seventh place in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier with games in hand on Redditch and Tiverton, who lie directly above them.

Despite admitting that the Terras were not at their “free-flowing best” Molesley added that it was a “good sign” to have won.

He told Echosport: “At times it seemed like a strange afternoon, it was quite quiet, we were 1-0 up and we weren’t at our free-flowing best.

“But we’ve got to understand that there’s more than one way to skin a cat. We’re not always going to have loads of possession, loads of shots.

“Sometimes you’ve got to give respect to the opposition – they’re a very good side – they had a lot of ball and we had to win a different way.

“I thought the boys did that. If we can learn to win like that as well as win when you’re not quite at your best when you’re on the ball I think that’s a good sign.”

Molesley also described his team’s display as “resolute”, with the Terras having to resist a Linnets side that enjoyed the majority of possession.

He said: “They did have a lot of possession at times, which was unusual for us. Usually we’re the team with the football but we had to share that a bit.

“I thought we were organised and resolute. We had a couple of scares in the second half and we were disappointed with the goal. We did stop that sort of move happening time and time again.

“For some reason we were a bit lax so it was disappointing to even concede in the first place. They had a lot of good ball but I felt that we nullified them well enough and always felt that we were a threat on the break.

“Having Harry Baker and Matt Tubbs to come on that’s great for us. Harry really sparked the game into life to be honest. We’d conceded and he just ignited the game and got it going a bit.”

And Molesley reserved special praise for veteran goalkeeper Gareth Stewart, who was named Terras’ man-of-the-match after a superb penalty save and numerous other “world-class” stops.

He said: “I’ve got to shout out to my good pal Gaz who’s come out of retirement again to save my bacon!

“The penalty save – it was a dubious penalty maybe – what a save from that and a fantastic save in the second half.

“But not only that, the saves were world class, but his calming influence, his kicking – when to play, when not to – you could just tell he was an experienced head out there.

“It was just what we needed. We’re a young side learning all the time and this is new to our players playing week in, week out. It’s relentless and there are some very good sides.

“King’s Lynn are certainly one of them. They’re going to be up there, there’s no doubt about that. So for us to claim three points at home was crucial.”
