Weymouth late show sees off Tiverton

WEYMOUTH 2

Carmichael 70, Down 83

TIVERTON TOWN 0

WEYMOUTH earned their second consecutive home win in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division at the Bob Lucas Stadium after an ill-tempered game against Tiverton.

The match, which saw a total of six yellow cards and a red card for Harry Baker, saw the Terras again leave it late to score twice to secure a fine win, with goals from Josh Carmichael and Toby Down.

The hosts were looking to get on a good run of form having ended a run of two league defeats last time out with a 2-0 win against Kings Langley.

The match which saw new signing Charlie Seaman score on his debut in a tough win that saw the Terras have to grab two late goals to win 2-0.

Calvin Brooks and Brandon Goodship are still out injured for the Terras, who were fourth in the table heading into this encounter while Tiverton Town were sixth.

The Terras are two points and two places above the Tivvy who are on a good run of form in the league, with three wins and a draw in their last four matches

In their last encounter Tiverton Town got a 2-1 home win over Weymouth, who were hoping for a better result this time round.

Weymouth manager Mark Molesley made two changes as he kept faith with the two late substitutes who came on against Kings Langley on Saturday, as Baker and Abdulai Baggie replaced Josh Wakefield and Pat Suraci.

Charlie Davis saw an early shot go over the bar for the Terras, who started on the front foot.

However, Ashley Wells was forced into an early clearance shortly after, as Levi Landricombe crossed into the box for Tivvy.

Landricombe was again in action as a shot from outside the box went wide.

A free-kick for the Terras from 25 yards failed to trouble visiting keeper Martin Rice but the home side were showing some fine attacking play.

This play continued when a great move ended with Ben Thomson threading a ball to Baggie, who forced a good save from Rice in the 13th minute.

Weymouth had to endure a spell of pressure where Tivvy forced the home defence into action several times without ever really causing a huge threat to Mark Travers in goal.

The crowd were incensed as Scott Rogers fouled Davis which earned him a yellow and produced a heated reaction from the Tiverton players, and also saw Ollie Knowles and Owen Howe go into the book on 27th minutes.

The bad tempered nature of the match carried on as soon after Davis was then booked for a tackle on Knowles five minutes later.

This seemed to spark the Terras into life as a decent spell of possession in the Tivvy box failed to produce a chance.

Baggie once again was on the end of a move in the 39th minute, which saw a curling shot go straight at Rice and he then nearly turned provider as he narrowly failed to find Thomson in the box.

Baggie and Thomson were linking up well as another move forced the Tiverton defence into action.

The second half started where the first left off, in heated fashion, as Baker had a penalty appeal turned down after going down in the box from a challenge by Rice.

Wells then went down and received treatment and was forced to leave the field.

Landricombe again proved a problem as a shot from the edge of the box had to be collected by Travers at the second attempt.

Baker then linked up well with Thomson, who was driven wide by the Tivvy defence and an attempted cross hit the defence and was cleared away.

Shortly after, Baker received a yellow card for a foul on Nick Hurst in the 64th minute.

Josh Carmichael broke the deadlock just two minutes after coming on with a great shot from 30 yards after winning the ball in midfield on 70 minutes.

However, the visitors hit back as Jake McCarthy had to take a powerful shot in the chest while defending but the Terras went up the other end shortly after and a long-range curling Baker effort forced a save.

For the second time in as many games, the Terras found their scoring boots late as a Down header from a Wakefield corner set them towards victory.

The celebrations were dampened by Baker being sent off for throwing the ball into the crowd which earned him his second yellow card.

A Tiverton shot from 12 yards out late on threatened to make a nervy ending to the match but Travers saved well.
