JOSH Carmichael is hoping Weymouth can finish what they started, after he signed a new contract with the Terras to keep him at the Bob Lucas Stadium for the 2018/19 season.
Carmichael, 23, won two player of the month awards during the 2017/18 season in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division, for November and February.
The former Gosport midfielder signed for Weymouth last May and scored four goals for the Terras.
When asked how it feels to have committed to the Terras for next season, Carmichael told Echosport: “Very good. It was a very positive year, obviously it did not end the way we wanted it to but it was a very positive year considering there was not a lot of expectation around the group that was brought together.
“I am delighted to stay for another season and hopefully finish off what we started from last season.”
Carmichael formed part of a team that finished fifth in the table with 97 points and reached the play-offs but lost 3-0 away at King’s Lynn Town in the play-off semi-final.
Asked how it was for him personally, Carmichael said: “It was good. It was positive in terms of a couple of player of the months, a few more goals.”
He admits to being glad to have avoided a big injury during the 2017/18 season, as Carmichael said: “I have not really had a season where I have managed to do whole season and not really pick up many injuries so that was quite positive for me personally.
“It was just all round pretty successful.
“I have always been unlucky with injuries.”
When asked what he is looking to improve on next year, Carmichael said: “I think as a team we all look forward to next year.
“We want to get promoted, especially this season where we have come so close, it has ended disappointingly, but I think we believe more in ourselves and we believe that we can take that extra step.
“I think we were unlucky in the last game, with them scoring three absolutely amazing goals, really.”
