Weymouth stung by Moneyfields’ double

WEYMOUTH sunk to a 2-1 defeat, their fourth of pre-season, away at Moneyfields as goals from Joe Bye and Steve Hutchings ensured their visit to Portsmouth was not a happy one.

Terras boss Mark Molesley was disappointed with the loss, but pointed out the bigger picture – when Weymouth begin their season in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier South, against Harrow.

Molesley said: “I think it is always disappointing to lose, you never like losing but the bigger picture is August 11.

“It is about getting the minutes and physical work into the boys.

“On the whole the evening was frustrating at times, there were some really good bits and pleasing bits.

But Molesley added: “There are some mistakes made now which need to be cut out at this stage of pre-season.”

Moneyfields took the lead in the 22nd minute when a free-kick from just outside the box was drilled in, with Weymouth goalkeeper Lloyd Thomas doing well to get down low and save.

However, from the rebound Bye tucked in to hand the home side the lead.

Weymouth grew into the game as the first half went on, while the home side hit the bar from 45 yards out with an ambitious effort from Connor Bailey.

The Terras looked dangerous and carried the threat on into the second half.

However, a mistake at the back led to Joe Briggs gaining possession and easily tucking in past Thomas to double the lead against the run of play.

After 71 minutes Goodship curled an effort past Steve Mowthorpe to narrow the scores.

Jake McCarthy forced Mowthorpe into a great low save, while Charlie Davis fired narrowly wide as the Terras ramped up the pressure late on but they could not find a way through as Moneyfields saw home the victory.

Moneyfields: Mowthorpe, Bailey, Pearce, Da Costa, Giddings, Bye, Raine, Fennemore, Rowlett, Hutchings, Briggs.

Subs not used: Overton, Guthrie, Simm, Roote, Martin, Gardner, Poate, Woodward.

Terras: Thomas, Wells, Trialist (Sa 46), Farrugia (Buckley 55), Trialist, Zubar (McCarthy 46), Baggie (Goodship 46), Davis, Baker, Trialist, Trialist.

It was a good match to watch but have to question this comment “…while the home side hit the bar from 45 yards out with an ambitious effort from Connor Bailey”. This was a ‘shot’ from an offiside (indirect free kick) and if it had been scored would not have counted anyway! Terras played well. Have to laugh at TRIALIST in the lineup (2 of them were Jez Bedford and Matt Casey from PFC)
