WEYMOUTH assistant-manager Tom Prodomo says his side are looking to build on from last year as they prepare to face Winchester City in their final pre-season game tomorrow (3pm).
Winchester thrashed the Terras’ Ridgeway rivals Dorchester Town 5-1 on Wednesday, while Weymouth fell 2-1 at Moneyfields on Tuesday evening.
Prodomo said: “I think especially after such an encouraging year last year the boys have seen the value and reward that their hard work can bring, but ultimately we fell short last year.
“So there is a real desire from everybody at the club to build on last year and ultimately do what we are setting out to do which is move this club forward.”
Morale at the club is good says Prodomo, despite a difficult pre-season that has seen them win one of their six matches, a 3-1 win at home to Kingstonian.
Prodomo said: “The mood in the camp is good.
“They are clearing the work that they have got to do over the next week or so before the season starts. They are all pushing each other as ever so that is never an issue within our group.”
Prodomo is happy with the progress in pre-season, highlighting the encouraging signs and work that has been done.
Prodomo said: “I think you cannot hide away from the fact that everyone within our group players and staff are very competitive, and are naturally keen to win at anytime that we come up against another club.
“But at the same time you have got to stay balanced in your views in pre-season and I think we have learned a lot. I think we have developed a theme in a lot of areas and integrated some players as well. So I think overall it has been very productive and we have seen enough of the things that we want to to encourage us ahead of the season. I think the players over the last year or so have developed a really good understanding of what it is we are looking to achieve in every game.”
“We are just looking to refine one or two bits before the season starts.”
