ANTONIO Diaz spoke of his desire to repay Weymouth manager Mark Molesley after his signing was announced prior to the 2-2 draw at Winchester City on Saturday.

Diaz, who was a second-half substitute, was signed alongside Josh McQuoid and Matt Casey, with the latter on work experience forms.

The winger said: “It is really pleasing, I spoke to Moles a lot over pre-season and when I told him I was available he was really keen to get him on board and I just want to repay him that now and play well and play in as many games as I can and help the team win every game.

“I am very pleased I came in at the start of pre-season with Moles, played a couple of games, trained and really enjoyed it.

“There is a great buzz around the squad, really competitive, which is I think really important for us and we all push each other because everyone can play and there is competition for places but I am really pleased to get back and I cannot wait for this week.”

Diaz admits the main aim is to go up and seal promotion for Weymouth, but his personal goals are simply to help as much as he can.

Diaz said: “That is the main aim to go up but personally I just want to play as many games as I can and make an impact when I am playing and just play well. Just try and play as many games as I can.”

A late goal from Brandon Goodship earned a draw against Winchester, who had beaten Dorchester Town 5-1 three days prior.

Diaz, who had a spell with Dorchester Town last season, admits he spoke to some former team-mates ahead of the match.

Diaz said: “I spoke to a couple of the boys, they said it was a difficult game and that Winchester are a good side and I think they proved again that they are a good side and I think it was a really good test for us.

“But I think the reaction we showed will take us a long way and I think we are ready for this week now.”

Overall though, Diaz is happy with the Terras’ performance against the Citizens.

Diaz said: “We played well, I thought all of the substitutes played really well and, to be fair, I thought the team in the second half were a lot better. “We created a lot of chances and five more minutes and we would have come away with a win so I am pleased with that.”
