BRANDON Goodship says there are not many better feelings in football after his last-minute winner saw Weymouth beat Walton Casuals 3-2 on Saturday.
The winner came moments after an 87th minute equaliser for Walton from Jack Battie, despite Weymouth having led 2-0 at half-time.
When asked about the equaliser, Goodship said: “To be honest, I was just a bit gutted because I should have scored beforehand and gone round the keeper, but the angle was tight.
“But look I have got no excuses, I should have scored and they have gone down the other end and equalised so it was even more gutting for me.
“But when those last-minute winners go in there are not many better feelings in football.”
The late strike is the second in successive matches for the ace marksmen, who also scored a late goal in the 2-1 win at Tiverton Town last Tuesday.
Reflecting on the Walton win, Goodship said: “We like to leave it late, to be fair, to be honest, we were cruising in the first half, we were 2-0 up we had done really well.
“In the second half they just got on top of us a little bit and unfortunately we lapsed in concentration and conceded the first goal.”
Goodship praised his team-mates for digging deep as Walton came back strongly in the second half, and referred to the ‘typical Weymouth fashion’ of scoring a late winner.
Goodship said: “The boys dug deep, we had a bit of a manic spell in the middle of the half and they have obviously got the late goal but in typical Weymouth fashion we have managed to sneak another goal in before the final whistle to win the game.”
The week caps a mad eight days for Weymouth, who saw a 1-1 draw at Swindon Supermarine the previous Saturday, before the wins at Tiverton and at home to Walton Casuals.
Goodship said: “In a week we have had three games and two away games and we have picked up seven points.
“Swindon Supermarine were a good side and I think it is going to be hard to get points there come the end of the season so I think we will look back at that as a good point.
“So all in all it has been a good week. To get two winners out of the three games myself I am delighted with that.”
The win against Walton guarantees that on Wednesday it will be one year since the Terras last lost at home in the league, but Goodship says it is all down to the fans.
Goodship said: “That is down to the fans really, they are brilliant when we are at home and they get behind us, from start to finish.
“Even when the second goal went in they were still singing for us to get forward and it really does help so that is down to them and teams get intimidated when they come here.
“There is such good support here, we get such good attendances and that is probably a large factor as to why we have got such good home form.”
