WEYMOUTH boss Mark Molesley hailed the “really exciting signing” of Ollie Harfield, who becomes the Terras’ first new face of the summer.
Harfield is a left-back by trade but has experience of playing wide as well having played in centre-midfield at times last season.
The defender, formerly of AFC Bournemouth, played for Dagenham and Redbridge last season and formed part of the team that finished 18th in the Vanarama National League.
Molesley told Echosport: “I feel it is a really exciting signing for the club. I think it is another lad that is young enough to get better, but he has also gone off and got some good experience in the National League.
“He is certainly a player that we have worked hard to get into the football club, and are delighted to get him into the club.”
Further discussing Harfield’s ability to play in a range of positions, Molesley highlighted that the club is more about quality than quantity.
Molesley said: “I think that is key with us, I think I said it last year, we are definitely not quantity we are quality, we are looking to players that can probably play a couple of positions, and I want competition in every place and he certainly provides that.
“He is a left-back by trade but he can play in other positions as well, and I know his character, I know his attitude, he is fit as a fiddle, he is a talented footballer.
“I think he is one that can grow as a footballer at the club and help the club grow.”
Molesley is familiar with former Dagger Harfield, labelling him “hungry” and he admits he prefers to sign players he already knows.
Molesley said: “He is no stranger to me, I like to sign players that I am familiar with and I know what I am getting.
“I know that he has got the attributes to fit our style of football and I feel that he is still young and hungry and wants to go on and do good things in the game and they are the sort of characters you want at the football club.
“We want players that want to play higher, that want to push the club on and want to get better.
“He really ticks all the boxes for us and we are delighted to get him in the building and provide competition and definitely strengthens this squad ready for a tough challenge ahead.
