Brennan Camp joins theterras.com in our latest midweek interview. He talks to us about his spell with us so far, signing his first pro-contract with the Cherries, following in family footsteps and his appreciation for the fans.
Josh Barton: It’s three man of the match awards in just one month. It’s not been a bad start to your loan spell with the Terras?
Brennan Camp: It’s been really good for me! I’ve really enjoyed the competitive side to it and I have played a lot of games in a short amount of time. I hope I can keep doing well in the next few games to help the team really kick on in the league and the cup matches!
JB: You are from the local area and your family have history at Weymouth. How nice is it for you to be following in their footsteps?
BC: Yes all of my family have always followed Weymouth since my Grandad (Gerry Gow) used to manage the club so it’s always nice to be part of it. It’s good for me as well to play locally so my family and friends can come see me play!
JB: AFC Bournemouth. You signed your pro-contract back in May. We’ve seen Mark Travers and others go on and grab their chances and play in some big games. Signing that first pro-contract at a Premier League club must have been a fantastic feeling?
BC: Definitely, it’s something you dream of as a young lad, so to get that first one at a club you’ve been a part of for 10 or so years was really good for me! I’ve seen the club go from League 2 all the way to the Premier League so hopefully, over the next few years, I can try to push myself to make it into that first team!
JB: For those that don’t know, how long have you been working with the manager Mark Molesley and how much of a positive influence has he been for you?
BC: Me and Mark have both been a part of the AFC Bournemouth set up for a lot of years now. He took me at Under 14’s level for a few seasons and of course the past few years with the Under 21’s. He has been a big influence on me definitely. He’s always helping me in training to become a better player and of course now with Weymouth as well! I’m thankful to him for trusting me to play at a young age for Weymouth in a league that will definitely challenge me!
JB: The supporters at Weymouth have taken a real liking to you since you’ve been with us. I think a bit like Ashley Wells it’s nice for them to see a local lad doing so well. Just a word for the fans and their support for you and the rest of the team.
BC: The fans have been brilliant with me and the whole team since I joined last month. It definitely helps the squad perform better on a matchday when the fans are in full voice and when they are driving us from the stands. We’re going to need them in big numbers for the next few games, it’s an important period for us over Christmas and hopefully, we can give them something to celebrate come the end of it!
