WEYMOUTH boss Mark Molesley believes loanee midfielder Tom Whelan is “growing in stature” after an impressive display in the Terras’ 0-0 draw with Billericay on Saturday.

Whelan, who earlier in February extended an initial one-month loan from rivals Yeovil by a further 30 days, anchored Weymouth’s midfield against the Essex side.

Whelan swept up possession numerous times in front of the Terras’ defence, showing the full spectrum of his game with tough tackling and clever passing.

After also playing an integral role in Weymouth’s 3-2 win at Hampton & Richmond two games ago, collecting an assist, the ex-Salisbury man is hitting form.

On Whelan, who has made 13 appearances this season, Molesley said: “He’s growing in stature at the club now he knows the way we like to play.

“He came here to get match-fit and he’s up to speed now, he’s had a run of games and is bearing the fruits for that. I thought he was one of our stand-out performers (on Saturday), for sure.”

Weymouth next host Maidstone United on Saturday (3pm).
