Mark Molesley has said that Weymouth will need to seize any advantage possible ahead of Saturday’s National League South Playoff Semi-Final with Dorking Wanderers.

Gunning for a place in the top tier of Non-League football, Molesley also said that his side will be looking to make its supporters proud of their team.

There were originally doubts whether Weymouth would get the opportunity to compete in the playoffs despite finishing in the top 3. However, a change of approach, following pressure applied from the clubs involved saw the 6 qualifying teams given the chance of promotion to the National League.

Mark Molelsey took time to praise those who have made the playoffs happen, “I think we’re completely indebted to the management teams from the other clubs in and around our league for putting up such an educated and well put together argument to get these playoffs sorted.

“Rightly so, we’ve got this opportunity and all the clubs have shown that given the opportunity we’ll make it happen. That’s been the case, we’ve got our tests done, we’ve got our funds raised, we’re Covid-secure and managed to come back and train under all these circumstances and that’s all we were asking for, the chance to go out and compete.

“I’m delighted we’ve got that chance and we are indebted to the good work from our counterparts and other management and clubs to get this on.”

Given the current Government restrictions on crowds and gatherings, the game will, unfortunately, be played behind closed doors. The Weymouth boss believes that the Terras need to try and seize on any advantages they can despite not having the home support there behind them.

“We’ve got to seize any advantage possible,” continued Molesley. “The home advantage has diminished quite a bit without having our crowd behind us.

“Usually at the end of the season the rest would have been a good thing, but now Dorking have had a game, so they might see that as an advantage for them, only time will tell. We can only concentrate on the circumstances we’ve been given and we’ve prepared the best way we can, on Saturday we can have no excuses.”

Weymouth now have the opportunity to secure back-to-back promotions following their Southern League title victory last season; something which Mark Molesley feels the club can be extremely proud of.

“It’s an exciting time for the club, from where this club was and the tough times it’s been through and how hard everyone has worked to get this club back to where it is today, it’s been quite a rapid rise in the last few years.

“We’re now competing in games which everyone is excited about and we’ve got a chance, that’s all we can ask for. Our destiny is in our own hands and we’ll be doing everything we can to make everyone proud of us.

“It’s been a great season and it’s not over yet.”
